Mama’s Little Helper

Miss Leyba loves to help around the house. She wipes down her eating area after our meals. She sweeps up. She puts books away on the shelves and blocks back in their basket. She helps sort laundry from one basket to another.

And she helps Mama load the dishwasher:

It’s wonderful having such an eager Little Helper.

Now excuse me while I go unload those (clean) items:

Then I can load up the dishwasher for real.

Chatting on the phone

“Hello, it’s Miss Leyba’s Mommy. Yes, she’s right here. She’d love to talk with you.”

Here she is pacing around the house while pretending to talk on the phone.
It’s a constant activity nowadays.

Miss Leyba sadly has yet another cold (we’re averaging about two a month this winter!). Nose running. Slight fever. Crying at the drop of a hat. She’s not herself, poor thing. Plus, we think she’s about to pop another tooth. She cried through most of the night on Saturday and then slept 13 hours last night, so we think she’s on the mend.

When she’s awake she’s still a happy girl though.

And still walking around the house chatting on the phone.

Hot Activities

This week Miss Leyba has been very interested in:

  • Reading books upside down,
  • Walking backwards,
  • Leaning back against walls and people (i.e. Mama),
  • Drinking water from a straw,
  • Taking off her socks and shoes whenever possible,
  • Telling funny stories and cracking herself up!

The Peace Garden

This post is for all of you getting a foot of snow on the East Coast. Here’s what our winters are like.

We try to run in the park several times a week. If the weather is cooperating and it’s not raining, we’re lucky if we get a 20 minute run in before Miss Leyba declares she’s had enough of her jogging stroller and wants to get out and walk around.

In an attempt to give her more exploratory time, she and I have been taking more walks just the two of us in our neighborhood. We’re lucky if we get five houses down in the span of a half hour. She has to touch every tree and flower, lift up every rock, run her fingers through the gravel driveways, and walk up to front doors and practice going up and down the steps on the front stoops. She has a great time!

So yesterday we decided to hit a local park and just walk around and explore.

We went to The Peace Garden:

Oh, the pine cones. I think she was disappointed she could only fit one in each hand. She kept having to pick and choose about what she could carry around with her.

Playing in the gravel was really fun too. Look at those patterns! Miss Leyba loves making art wherever she goes.

Half the pictures we took show her running away from us, heading off to explore!

We then walked over to the dog park. Boy, was that exciting for our girl!

Watching dogs play sure takes some serious concentration!
