A Rest Day

We’ve just returned from a week-long family trip to New Mexico, so we’re busy recovering from our long travel day yesterday and doing things like stocking the refrigerator today and marveling over how much our garden grew in such a short period of time. Is it really May already?!

We’ll see you back here tomorrow to tell you about our trip.

A Winged Visitor

One of the benefits in living close to a large wetland is the extraordinary wildlife that visits our front yard. This beautiful egret was a recent early morning visitor.

“Mom, what is that?”

“An egret.”

“Oh, he belongs in water.” (We drove past a group of SEVEN egrets last week standing in shallow water on the way home from the grocery store. The girl remembers EVERYTHING.)

Well, it’s pretty darn wet out there.

In most parts of North America “April showers bring May flowers.” Here in Sonoma County it rains consistently from November through April and then we (typically) have a dry summer. Only a few weeks more of this rain and then our spring will really begin…

Group Shot

The little miss asked me to take this picture of her holding hands with her imaginary friends.

If only I could remember who else was in the picture. Was it Savannie, Faladdie or Natashe? I can’t quite recall.

Those imaginary friends are ever changing and always adorable. They visit us every day and for that I am truly thankful. When they’re here, I can get something done cause you-know-who is occupied!

The Sick House

I feel like we’ve been sick all winter.
David reminds me that we were sick all last winter too.

Ah, building a toddler immune system. It’s tough on all of us, but worth it in the end.

Besides, sometimes it’s really nice to have an excuse to drink smoothies in Mommy and Daddy’s bed and watch a little Sesame Street.

Speaking of being sick, have you read A Sick Day for Amos McGee? This recent Caldecott winner is a delightful book about reciprocity and friendship. We LOVE it!

I think we all need to have special friends to come cheer us up when we’re feeling down.
