Pretty girl in her party dress

We went to a fantastic kids birthday party and barbecue on Sunday with our playgroup buddies. David, Miss Leyba and I had such fun being social with our friends.

We took many (mostly blurry) photos and movies, but these few are my favorite.

First, check out this sad face:

Miss Leyba collided with her friend Aimee, who immediately burst out in tears, while Miss Leyba put on a brave face. She very rarely cries in public (especially in front of her friends!). Instead she makes this face and looks to David or I for a comforting hug while she tries not to cry.

This is the first time I’ve gotten a picture of this facial expression. I was in the middle of snapping photos and David was there to comfort her, so instead of having to rush in and give her support, I got to take this photo. Of course, I couldn’t resist posting it. So darn cute, my stoic daughter.

Soon thereafter she was back to her normal cheerful self:

It took about two hours for her to finally get up the nerve to leave Dad’s side to play in the jumpy room (with him nearby, of course!) and go down this awesome slide:

She did this over and over again. Over and over. David is such a trooper. I so had the easy job, cheering her on and helping her climb off the slide at the bottom.

By the way, I have no idea what she’s shouting at the end of the video, despite normally understanding almost everything she says nowadays. All I can say is “that is one excited girl!”

Join us for a walk on our street

Sometimes she rides her tricycle, but more often she pushes it. (Fine by me; I am all about Miss Leyba wearing herself out running around.)

I love this movie for the very cute “oh no!” in the middle of it (about 1 minute in) when her trike gets stuck.

By the way she picked out her clothes and accessorized herself. Love that rockin’ headband! And evidently warm furry boots are perfect for cloudy days no matter how hot it is outside. This is Northern California and there are fashion standards to be maintained, after all.

A Summer of Visitors

We’ve had so many friends and family visit us this summer and I feel negligent that I haven’t posted photos of everyone! Here is a catch-up post (in reverse chronological order)…

With Selena at Golden Gate Park (August 2009)

Hanging at home with Miss Leyba’s Great-Aunt Deborah-Miriam (August 2009)

On our street with Matthieu and Christina who visited us from France! (August 2009)

Eating yummy ice cream with Robin and Josh (July 2009)

Visiting thousand year old Redwoods and hanging at home with “Pop Pop,” my father. (May 2009) Miss Leyba came up with that name for him in the first half hour of his visit and it has stuck. In fact, she just came over, pointed at the screen and said, “Me! Pop Pop!” Love it.

Thanks for visiting us! We enjoyed each and every visit!

Dance Party

Here’s what we were up to on Saturday Night! Dance, dance, dance party for Miss Leyba and a phenomenal concert for the rest of us.

About halfway through the show she discovered that if you lay down on the floor you could really feel the vibrations. So dancing while lying on the floor became the ultimate Miss Leyba dance move.

We had such fun.

Thank you for inviting us to your birthday celebration, David! (our next door neighbor)

(Are you guys shocked (and hopefully pleased!) that this is my third post in a week? Let’s see how long I can keep this up.)
