Camping Friday

Another post in our First on Friday series where we try something new!

David and I used to camp together.

We camped across the country:

David outside our old tent in Texas Canyon in 2003 on our way home to New Mexico from the east coast

We camped in our backyard for several nights after our wedding as a mini-honeymoon before the big honeymoon several months later:

With the wedding decorations still up in 2005 (ugh, pardon the blurry photo)

We camped in beautiful places:

At the Great Sand Dues in 2006

And then we had a kid. Since this event we’ve slept in a tent a total of one night IN OUR BACKYARD. LAST YEAR. TO TRY IT OUT. I know, pathetic. To say it was time to try it again was a bit of a understatement.

Yesterday we headed out to a State Park close to home for a one-night trip. Luckily when you live in Northern California you don’t need to go far to find someplace absolutely beautiful. Less than an hour away may not sound terribly exciting, but we’ve been feeling giddy over it and loved our trip.

Here’s how it went down:

All three of us enjoyed being in nature, doing something new together, and getting away from the fray.

Our getaway was so needed, so restful, such fun… and I am so looking forward to doing it again.

The best part though is that it’s Friday and we have the whole weekend ahead of us! Have a good one!

Beach day

The best part of living 25 minutes from the beach? Frequent trips to the shore without any guilt about how long you stay. Drive to the beach for an hour or two before naptime? Why not?!

We had a lovely time.

East Coast Trip Photos

Last month we headed East for some family time and cousin Rachel’s wedding. We took several hundred photos during the two weeks we were in New Jersey, here are some of our favorites. (And, yes, Miss Leyba was the flower girl and, no, she didn’t walk down the aisle (tiny melt down at the last minute). But she was the only person at the wedding to dance for FOUR HOURS STRAIGHT at the reception! Aside from cousin Rachel, Miss Leyba was the belle of the ball!)

Trip to New Mexico

We had a great time in New Mexico visiting family and friends and celebrating David’s Grandmother’s 80th birthday!

Here are just a couple photos — or 20 — from the trip.

(Hope you have a fast internet connection!)

Enjoy!

Isn’t that a stunning view?

Miss Leyba traveled beautifully and, believe it or not, we actually had a fun time together and she didn’t loose it on either of the days we spent flying and driving (over 12 hours door to door each way).

Visiting with Great Grandma (oh, sorting Shirley Temple dvds — what fun!) and giving goodbye kisses.

Cruising around the historic downtown:

Visiting with friends and family:

Three out of the four generations.

There we go!

Climbing stairs — a favorite activity that you can do practically anywhere…

Helping out in Grandma and Grandpa’s store.

See the painting of us nursing in the background? Good thing I am not particularly modest (although I did refrain from posting all of the breastfeeding photos from the trip; aren’t you proud?).

Cuddling with Tasha while feeling overwhelmed at Great Grandma’s party.

Not sure about this whole blowing out the candles thing either.

Happy Birthday, Marilyn!

Helping out with the slide show.

Family photo… such a serious bunch.

Oh, the dogs. Miss Leyba LOVED the dogs… here are a few of her new, special friends.

Painting of us by my mother-in-law on display at the Mimbres Region Arts Council. We’re famous.

Coming soon: movies from the trip! (one of these days, anyhow.)
